Strategically Dismantling Procrastination

Good morning gents.

I procrastinate. A lot. If you saw how bad it was, you'd think its a miracle that I got this far being

But its not a miracle. I simply circumnavigated my ADHD-induced analysis paralysis by rethinking the rules of engagement. And you can too.

I didn't work harder, I worked smarter. I took the time to know how my brain works and built strategies that made getting shit done not just easier, but enjoyable.

Here are 7 tactics I use to overcome procrastination and get shit done (I'm using them as we speak).

Overcoming Analysis Paralysis

We've all been there. Sink full of dishes. Inbox full of semi-important emails. Blank Google Doc.

We've got a million things to do, but can't get ourselves to do anything.

This is normal. Especially for ADHD/Hunter Types. Analysis Paralysis.

Goggins types will tell you to work harder. Snowflake types will tell you not be so hard on yourself. I'm telling you to work SMARTER.

But before you can will your brain to do what you want, you need to understand how it works

You are not Master of Your Own House

If getting ourselves to do hard things was as easy as just doing it, we'd all be jacked and articulate millionaires.

But its not. Most of our cognitive function occurs outside of our awareness and control. The conscious portion of your brain is in a constant tug-of-war with your subconscious (and for most people, its losing badly).

This is why we eat junk food, stay up late, and avoid hard things. We're subconsciously protecting ourselves from pain and chance of failure.

It's Going to Suck

Working & Lifting are one and the same.

  • The weights don't get lighter, you get stronger

  • Working out isn't the hard part, getting started is

  • The harder your workout, the more accomplishment you feel after

No man has ever become great avoiding difficulty. The human condition thrives on adversity.

Anything worth doing is going to be difficult. If you want to be exceptional embrace the suck.

Tip 1: Externalize Mental Problem Solving

Unburden your brain by getting thoughts on paper. Our brain is wired for picking berries and hunting game, not Gmail and Excel Sheets.
