Cosmetics Overhaul 2: Body Odor & Deodorants
How to smell good without giving yourself brain damage & infertility
Gm gents (and ladies). Welcome back to the Cosmetics Overhaul Protocol
Time to talk about actually efficacious products. Unique Concoctions. The meat & potatoes of any esoteric elitist’s toiletry bag.
Your skin is an absorbent organ. Anything you put on it should be food grade or better.
Just remember, large-scale cosmetic companies care about 2 things and 2 things only:
Profit margins
Repeat purchases
Sure, this applies to 99% of business, but these are 7 companies creating all the products on shelves with a fiduciary duty to make as much money for stakeholders. Products that DIRECTLY impact your health and wellbeing
This Series will give you everything you need to create an S-tier toiletry stack. You’ll smell better, look better, feel better, and not have to worry about industrial posions impacting your fertility. We will be covering natural alternatives for:
Deodorant
Toothpaste
Shaving creams
Moisturizers
Fragrances
Today lets talk smell. Scentmaxxing as we call it.
Scent vs Stink:
Being smelly is one thing, but having an odor is natural (and crucial in mate attraction). Human body odor contains pheromones. We subconsciously use the scent of others to determine compatibility.
Have you ever wondered why some people smell ‘good’ while others are repugnant? This often comes down to differences in MHC genes (Major Histocompatibility Complex)
Your olfactory system is looking for the best mate via scent, the one that will provide your offspring with the most robust immune system. Why inhibit this with off-brand Drakkar Noir?
Sweat is not the culprit:
Sweat itself is mostly odorless. Bad odor comes from bacteria on the skin and metabolic byproducts from diet.
Sulfur-rich foods
Foods high in sulfur produce sulfuric volatile compounds (SVCs). These are often excreted in sweat.
Culprits include: cruciferous vegetables, garlic, onions, broccoli, asparagus, eggs, curry powder, cheese, chickpeas
Experiment with a low-sulfur diet if you can’t kick the stink. Some people are sensitive to sulfur to begin with so worth experimenting anyway.
Choline & Carnitine
Both of these produce TMAO, a fishy-smelling metabolite. Take aged garlic extract (with high allicin content) to reduce formation (and nullify smell)
Alcohol
Alcohol (ethanol) metabolizes into acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde that doesn’t get processed through your liver gets excreted via sweat. Hence “sweating out the booze”
Better detox → Less smell
Your skin is a detox organ. If your primary detox functions become dysfunctional or overburdened, toxins accumulate in your system & are more likely to be excreted from your sweat glands
Liver is the primary workhorse, but your gut, kidneys, and even lymphatic system play a role.
Sauna regularly, eat clean, reduce your toxin load, and take care of your liver. Unhealthy people rarely smell good. If they do it’s because those toxins are being stored in their fat instead of excreted via detox organs.
Fix your bacterial composition, pH, and detox capacities fix your scent. There’s a reason unhealthy people smell “unhealthy”
“I can smell your fear”
This isn’t a joke. Anxiety and emotional stress trigger your apocrine glands.
These are larger, deeper glands that release a milky fluid. The substances released produce a particularly pungent odor when broken down by bacteria on the skin
Although this apocrine excretion has a role in pheromones & mate attraction, it can get unruly if excessive.
Deodorant & Anti-perspirant
First off, we need to distinguish between Deodorant and antiperspirant.
