Hey Noah,

Im struggling career wise. I don’t have a clear vision and path when it comes to career and what i wanna do for a living which is causing a lot off stress and worry in my day to day life. Im intrested in psychology, behavior, ADHD and health. Im currently studying behavior science at university (Im from Sweden school is free) but i dont feel certain. My adhd brain is causing me to be all over the place when it comes to this and i feel scattered. Do you have any advice for someone in my position?

What is piquing your interest right now? What do you feel like you can study for hours? What feels like play to you that is work to others? Hone in on that. Clarify. Remind yourself daily.

Your objective right now is not to make a decision, its to learn more about how you operate. Chill out. No good decisions can be made when the decision itself is causing you stress. Choose non-binding skills like marketing, communication, sales, and human behavior (as opposed to accounting, finance, computer science).

Build up meta skills, learn how to learn. Focus on the force multipliers that will 5x your results when you do decide what to specialize in. Optimize for curiousity

Appreciate the answer as always. Do you have any "how to learn" material esp for adhd?

I sometimes have days where I'm extremely tired / fatigued. I sleep normally, wake up without any alarms and then a couple of hours into the day I just feel extremely tired. Doesn't matter whether or not I have eaten. Caffeine doesn't help. Sleeping doesn't help either, I would wake up just as tired. What could it be?

Noah Ryan's avatar

Some of us just have varied energy output. 120% one day, 60% the next. Learn to ride these flows. Look for patterns & consistencies. Don't try to find a quick fix, gather data.

"Extremely tired" is not enough to hone in on root cause, look for other side effects on these low energy days. Puffiness? Ruminating thoughts? Gut issues? Anything and everything

Gather data like a MF

I have been doing FTN for a couple of weeks now. The only supplements I have been taking are Taurine and beef organ pills. I feel more focused/higher energy during the day BUT I find that the energy won’t really go away once I am trying to sleep. I’ve never had a problem falling asleep until recently and I wake up 4-5 a night. It feels like a catch 22.

Do you have a sleep protocol or any supplements you recommend other than magnesium?

Train really hard during the day. I assume you're already blocking out blue light. Try tart cherry juice and glycine before bed. Have a wind-down ritual to signal to your brain that it is bedtime.

Worst case scenario, just leverage the nighttime energy. Apply it to something worthwhile. This will ironically probably help you fall asleep since you remove the frenetic energy of worry

Yeah, I block out blue light and have been drinking tart cherry juice with my Thorne Magnesium Bisglycinate before bed (not sure if that is the same as Glycine).

Funny enough, since writing this, I have been sleeping better. I forgot to mention that I was recommended Tongkat Ali for T support. I was taking that for about a week or so and I think that was actually more of the issue because I tend to be really sensitive to herbal supplements. Since taking that out of the rotation I have been doing better overall.

Tongkat is quite stimulating. Glad you figured that out

Noah is it possible to gain 10-20 pounds of weight (hoping for mostly muscle) while keeping visible abs?

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

On a long enough timeframe yes, but disregard any weight goal and just focus on quality food and training. If the scale doesn't go up, eat more. If the abs fade, refine macros and move more. 20lbs is a lot and you'll probably become fat if you speedrun that

Hi, Noah. I'm doing a prolonged fast soon (7+ Days).

I usually take electrolytes, lime juice, coffee & tea during prolonged fasts (1x a year).

I've seen your post on X in 2022 recommending:

- Taurine

- Ginkgo Biloba

- B-Complex

- MCT oil + Ketone esters

- Electrolytes (Lots of salt)

- Alpha-GPC

Any other advice/tips you've come across during the past 3 years? Thanks!

*I am not asking for medical advice. Just your opinion on the topic*

Noah Ryan's avatar

That advice is somewhat of a modified fast as MCT oil will break caloric fast.

My current stack would be simply electrolytes, Ketone esters (BHB), B-complex. But I also don't do prolonged fasts. Roll with it! The beneficial outcomes will be more spiritual than physical IMO

Hey Noah, I’m struggling with consistent skin issues. I had cystic acne at 18, but now at 20, it has morphed into rosacea with acne-like papules on my cheeks and the sides of my face. It’s no longer cystic, but still stubborn. I’ve tried multiple gut protocols, get labs done every six months, use a shower filter, and have experimented with various beef tallows, oils, and methylene blue—nothing has fully worked. I haven’t had seed oils or alcohol in two years, and overall, I’m grateful because this was the start of my health journey. But I just don’t understand why my skin won’t fully heal once and for all.

Welcome to the club! I will say out of all the protocols, L-glutamine has been the biggest needle mover. Its oftentimes an intestinal permeability thing. Toxins are leeching out of your gut and getting into your bloodstream Try L-glutamine. 5g-10g daily on an empty stomach. Report back

Currently deep into a gut reset. Identified extreme SIBO as the likely culprit - hard to isolate certain food irritants as it seems everything irritates.

Off a parasite cleanse (didn't see huge benefits), taking copious antiparisitics, carrot salad etc. Likely to venture into the space of low dose antibiotics (after extensive research, I know that's a spicy topic).

Main thing I'm struggling with is keeping metabolism/energy high. Since I can't eat starches or dairy, 80% of "bulking foods" or "high calorie" foods are out. Can't get enough low FODMAP fruit in a day to feel full and energized, let alone put on weight.

Know it's a bit broad of a question, but any feedback appreciated.

Cheers

If you're going to run an intensive cleanse, performance is going to suffer. You can compensate by doubling down on electrolytes, energy support compounds like Creatine, B-vitamins, and caffeine, but also just embrace the process. Ask Geekbot what foods you CAN eat in the context of a candida cleanse. I personally believe small amounts of oats are okay and the literature supports this

Hey Noah, my mom has been suffering from "post-covid" for a few years now, which I guess might be eliviated through different means, however, she needs to lose a bit of weight and I believe her doctor told her she's pre-diabetic and needs to make some changes pretty fast (not how of course), so I'm looking to help and get her dialed in.

Been consulting with Geekbot a lot trying to figure out a plan of action, and from my understanding the main focus should be on fixing metabolic health, not necessarily just slashing calories to lose weight (she actually doesn't eat that much to be honest), but wanted to hear you input. What would be the main levers to focus on and how would you approach it?

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

Hey Leander, Diabetes is a metabolic disorder. First step would be a lifestyle audit. What are easy switches she can make to get healthier? Is she moving? getting sun? First step would be getting her the energy to make healthy changes. If long-covid is a concern, consider spike protein mitigation protocol like Bromelain, NAC, Curcumin and Nattokinase

From a metabolic standpoint, addressing dysfunctional mitochondria/glucose shuttling with Taurine, Maybe CoQ10 & PQQ is sensible. This is a viable use case for berberine

not medical advice but I'd start there. Find what you KNOW is not good and can be easily removed.

Have you heard of anyone experiencing heart palpitations after starting the shredmaxxing protocol / is it possible that transitioning to a high carb diet could cause them? I've been running the protocol for about 6 weeks now and have been experiencing them almost every day for the past few weeks. Usually after I eat. I'm also running the basic stack of supplements - taurine, B1, and l-carnitine. Besides the palpitations I feel incredible and have seen great results.

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

I haven't, but cut out all the supplements and reincorporate individually on a 4 day cadence.

Palpitations can be caused by electrolyte imbalance, overfunctioning thyroid and excess adrenaline

Add magnesium, prioritize potassium (with coconut water), cut out other supplements

Hey Noah, I tried the Shredmaxxing protcol earlier in the year for about 3-4 weeks and I’ve been doing more of anabology’s honey diet the last two weeks. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ve been doing either too correctly because I’m not seeing the results described. I think I know what I need to fix, but I would appreciate further clarification to really dial this in and get the results this protocol can offer. The meal plan article you’re working on would be a big boost.

I’m 25-30% bodyfat and I work 9-5 and train MMA/lift most evenings to about 7-8pm after work.

My main mistakes are:

1. drinking OJ+pomegranate juice. I’ve stopped doing this

2. Eating eggs, 85-15 ground beef, and resistant starch rice after training. I also eat beef and rice around 1-2 hours before training

3. Whole milk with whey protein at night

How should I adjust these to see the results from Shredmaxxing? I would appreciate any nuanced and more specific guidance provided. I want to get this down pat.

Howland's avatar

I made the switch to 93-7 beef. Should I ditch the eggs for a while too?

I’ve been doing honey for the last month. Would you recommend going back to fruit? And can I keep eating resistant starches before and after training?

Noah Ryan's avatar

You're on the right path. Ditch the fatty foods. Especially the milk. Fat should be a supplement

No more redlining sugar. Eat fruit, not fruit juice

Your metabolism isn't ready for all that juice AND that fat. Use tools like L-carnitine, Taurine, Black Ginger, and Vitamin B1 to improve your body's capacity for carbs. You rushed into it and disrespected the Randall Cycle

What are your toughts on PQQ & Ubiquinol? Can these be used without cycling?

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

CoQ10 might be okay to not cycle, especially if you have cholesterol or heart issues. PQQ should probalbly be cycled as research is inconclusive. I have gone through PQQ & CoQ10 protocols especially in the beginning of the shredmaxxing protocol. They're great for upregulating my cardio output as well. I use in PQQ conjunction with Redlight as a mitochondrial biogenesis tool and CoQ10 as a endurance training pre-workout

Do you know of any reasons why honey might cause shin splints of inflammation in the shins?

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

I do not. But too much of anything exposes you to any flaws in said thing. So maybe you're getting a contaminated source, maybe you're sensitive to one of the bioactives in honey, or maybe you and honey just don't click

Hey Noah read your tweet on skin health as a proxy for deeper root issues. Been stuck with eczema for the last few months. Drinking bone broth, and a homemade green juice very morning as well as taking milk thistle and nac. What’s the best way for experimenting in healing skin issues like these?

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

First step is identifying accompanying side effects. What else do you notice?

Second is total elimination. Cut out everything but things you know don't cause flareups, maybe just beef and rice (rice might be problematic)

Third is relentless experimentation and documentation. Reincoroporate things one by one, see what flares you up and what doesnt.

If I were you I would look first at dairy, high histamine foods, and gluten (i"m sure you've already considered this)

I would look at lactoferrin, colostrum, quercetin, L-glutamine, maybe marshmallow root.
