Hey Noah, from a purpose and enjoyment standpoint for a hunter/adhd type do you think it’s better to be a health/lifestyle optimisation content creator or more of a health brand owner? (Asking for myself as someone who wants high income but needs purpose, enjoyment and novelty in life as much as possible)

Noah Ryan's avatar

Hey Nathan, why not both?

I do both and they serve each other nicely. I will say that operating businesses requires skills that aren't the most conducive to the ADHD brain (admin, operations, logistics, etc) So if you can get really good at a few things that come naturally to you AND build an asset in the form of audience you'll be able to attract strong business partners and a strong team (which is exactly what I did)

You'll do best if you can dedicate yourself fully to something but be able to adapt that to your own development. A brand, both personal, and commercial, enables that if you play your cards right.

The first step to either is to get so good they can't ignore you (read this book). You need to be so good at what you do that it overpowers your deficits elsewhere. Then find neurotypical partners

You've been an inspiration for me trying to get big ass forearms. I've been training them consistently past year or so doing many of the workouts in your forearm/arm guide. They've definitely gotten stronger but no noticeable hypertrophy gains. Do I just increase volume? Train them everyday with "trigger sessions?" I also had to stop training BJJ because I start the fire academy in June. Any help is appreciated.

Noah Ryan's avatar

More volume is always the first rock to overturn. Train them daily, they can take a lot of volume. Then give a 7-12 day break to make room for hypercompensation

Do this in conjunction with the bone density protocol for elite wrist/grip/forearm gains

What’s the best place to stay in Costa Rica and Mexico if you prefer nice beach, swim in the ocean, not too crowded/touristy but still has access to good gym, supermarket so you can cook for yourself and work from cafes.

There really is no best place, a lot of personal preferences. For me personally, puerto escondido, nayarit, santa teresa

Sayulita in mexico was my favorite, also puerto escondido but it has lot more of party vibe/touristy vibe there tho.

What’s the best way to take on more responsibilities for a 23 year old that has none?

Like what can I start/do?

I want to have more agency

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

Agency is something you forge by voluntarily shouldering burdens others avoid.

Stop trying to “figure out what to do" and commit to something that scares you. Create a non-optional commitment in your field of choice. Write an article every day for 90 days.

Find an opportunity and commit to it fully. I can't decide for you, you have to decide for yourself. Accept that you'll probably fail and it will probably suck but do it anyway. Thats the point.

Find a skill. Master that skill. Apply said skill to something bigger than you.

How would you say is an ideal way to balance heath and morals in terms of intimacy in a relationship.

Like following the right steps and moral practices in a bit of a religious fashion e.g. things like waiting till marriage, focusing on growth in the relationship.

But also not suppressing the bodies natural processes/ reproductive system/ libido, and damaging yourself,

the body is obviously doing its thing for a reason.

(some nasty events happened to my body after abstaining for so long)

So I’m wondering what might be a realistic balance to maintain with girlfriend in a healthy relationship.

Hopefully I’ve worded this appropriately!

Cheers mate.

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

What do you feel is right? Deep down, whats your goal? Do you want to be a slave to your bodily urges or adhere to the moral code you tell yourself you believe in? Whatever you choose, sit with it and make sure there's no cognitive dissonance.

If you want a healthy, long-lasting relationship, just make sure your actions are in accordance with that goal. If that means abstinence/relationship boundaries, operate as such.

Figure out what is 100% in misalignment and avoid entirely. Porn, lust, etc. Then ponder on the rest of it. Let me know if this answered your question

Hey Noah, I was on Accutane through most of my teenage years.

What would your general framework look like for optimizing overall health and performance after something like that?

Also, do you have any go-to resources you'd recommend for someone looking to self-educate and go deep on this kind of stuff? (I've been using Geekbot)

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

Generally speaking:

- Prioritize 5ar activity (enzyme that converts T into DHT) - Ask geekbot about this

- TUDCA & Taurine for bile flow & liver function

- Low-ish vitamin A

- NO PUFAs absolutely no pufas

- L-Glutamine

- BPC-157 has personally been effective

Accept what happened and operate as if the damage has been done. No crying over spilt milk as they say

We live in a world full of seed oils, emfs, microplastics, led lights etc.

Sometimes we have to compromise our health for those things, because life happens.

How can you maintain a rock-hard mindset that you don't give a fuck about those things? I try my best to improve my health, but sometimes I feel fragile, because when I have to do something which I see as "unhealthy" I get to concerned about it. But my endgoal is not to maximize health for the sake of health but to excel in life.

I apply the Paradox of Prep (a la napoleon)

Be strict when its easy so you can be relaxed when its hard. My baseline is totally dialed when I'm at home. I built out systems and frameworks to mitigate and avoid damage from most of what life throws at me (eating out, drinking, travelling etc).

Since I have 99 of my bases covered and then some, I make room for the inevitable slip-ups. The late nights out, the subpar eating, and the blue light late at night.

I accept that its an expense for whatever experience I'm having, instead of lamenting the situation, I embrace it and make it worth whatever negative health infractions I may accrue.

This comes from a distinct mindset shift you make. Decide to be done with neuroticism. Say fuck it, we ball. Internalize how fragile you feel letting your life become dictated by health restrictions

Slightly peaty question.

Generally speaking how do you know my metabolism is taking the amount of sugar I'm consuming well?

I do consume quite a lot--from whole foods but also added to my coffee, drinks etc.

Can I just go off my energy and mood which are great?

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

General peat principles are temperature upon waking & midday

For me personally, its how hot I am, particularly my hands & feet. Secondarily is vascularity and general energy. If I'm feeling the need to shadowbox, stretch, go for a run, I'm in good standings

On a longer timeframe, use the mirror. If you're looking fat, maybe that extra sugar isn't going where you want it.

I personally do not eat table sugar or added sugar.

Hey Noah,

Im struggling career wise. I don’t have a clear vision and path when it comes to career and what i wanna do for a living which is causing a lot off stress and worry in my day to day life. Im intrested in psychology, behavior, ADHD and health. Im currently studying behavior science at university (Im from Sweden school is free) but i dont feel certain. My adhd brain is causing me to be all over the place when it comes to this and i feel scattered. Do you have any advice for someone in my position?

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

What is piquing your interest right now? What do you feel like you can study for hours? What feels like play to you that is work to others? Hone in on that. Clarify. Remind yourself daily.

Your objective right now is not to make a decision, its to learn more about how you operate. Chill out. No good decisions can be made when the decision itself is causing you stress. Choose non-binding skills like marketing, communication, sales, and human behavior (as opposed to accounting, finance, computer science).

Build up meta skills, learn how to learn. Focus on the force multipliers that will 5x your results when you do decide what to specialize in. Optimize for curiousity

I have been doing FTN for a couple of weeks now. The only supplements I have been taking are Taurine and beef organ pills. I feel more focused/higher energy during the day BUT I find that the energy won’t really go away once I am trying to sleep. I’ve never had a problem falling asleep until recently and I wake up 4-5 a night. It feels like a catch 22.

Do you have a sleep protocol or any supplements you recommend other than magnesium?

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

Train really hard during the day. I assume you're already blocking out blue light. Try tart cherry juice and glycine before bed. Have a wind-down ritual to signal to your brain that it is bedtime.

Worst case scenario, just leverage the nighttime energy. Apply it to something worthwhile. This will ironically probably help you fall asleep since you remove the frenetic energy of worry

Expand full comment
Corey's avatar

Yeah, I block out blue light and have been drinking tart cherry juice with my Thorne Magnesium Bisglycinate before bed (not sure if that is the same as Glycine).

Funny enough, since writing this, I have been sleeping better. I forgot to mention that I was recommended Tongkat Ali for T support. I was taking that for about a week or so and I think that was actually more of the issue because I tend to be really sensitive to herbal supplements. Since taking that out of the rotation I have been doing better overall.

Have you heard of anyone experiencing heart palpitations after starting the shredmaxxing protocol / is it possible that transitioning to a high carb diet could cause them? I've been running the protocol for about 6 weeks now and have been experiencing them almost every day for the past few weeks. Usually after I eat. I'm also running the basic stack of supplements - taurine, B1, and l-carnitine. Besides the palpitations I feel incredible and have seen great results.

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

I haven't, but cut out all the supplements and reincorporate individually on a 4 day cadence.

Palpitations can be caused by electrolyte imbalance, overfunctioning thyroid and excess adrenaline

Add magnesium, prioritize potassium (with coconut water), cut out other supplements

Anything to recommend for bags under eyes?

I seem to have them permanently (and I’m not that old). It’s like I’m suffering from some sort of permanent allergy. I’m constantly congested under there.

I’ve heard cornflower floral water could be a good remedy. But, I’d like to get to the source of the problem rather than respond to symptoms.

Stagnant lymph and kidney are first assumptions. Up electrolyte intake, try dandelion root. Use gua shua, apply topical caffeine in the AM.

I have the same predisposition and these seem to work well

How do you recommend using red light therapy?

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

I use it most nights before bed. For general benefits and skin health, I just sit near it. For targeted support of thyroid, gut, skin, hair growth, reproductive organs, or injuries, I apply it closely to the desired area. 15-minute sessions are ideal.

I work a very physically demanding job Monday to Friday. Lots of low level cardio and pulling movements. I want to gain muscle, but I'm worried about overtraining. What training volume and style would you recommend to continue putting on mass while still prioritizing recovery? What is better, to train after work and be completely exhausted or to only train on weekends and have no real rest days? Appreciate any input.

Expand full comment
Noah Ryan's avatar

First step is consistent feeding throughout the day. Need to compensate for energy burn from work

Second step is lowering training volume, but upping intensity. High volume and you'll overtrain.

45 minute sessions 3x/week. 1 warmup set & 2 top sets. total focus & presence in the workout for 3 exercises or so. It will feel like less than desired, but intensity is whats important here
